Mike Weaver on July 1st, 1995, began walking for fitness.

He was 46 years old and decided it was time to get moving, move more, sit less.

And walking was his fitness activity of choice and he began walking his original

intention was to go seven miles but after that first day he sort of navigated around where he

lives and turns out it was five miles and it was fine with that and it continued on and then in

early 96 so not quite a year into this new fitness activity it snowed three feet of snow

mike lives in western maryland and that sort of thing happens three feet of snow in western maryland

doesn't disappear overnight. Mike was

sidelined for 11 days because of the snow. And he made the determination never again, never again.

And so he began walking. His original goal was to create a walking streak that equaled Cal Ripkin's playing streak. Cal Ripkin, an American baseball player, played for the Baltimore Orioles,

and he holds the Major League record for consecutive games played without taking a game off,

2,632 games. It's one of those baseball records that most experts believe will never be broken.

16 seasons of 162 games each, never getting injured.
