Several years ago, there was a violinist prior to concert. He was preparing his instrument,

and I happened to be in the back there, and I was asking, what are you doing? He said, I'm adjusting.

He said, because if the string is too slack, the resulting music will be discordant.

If the string is strained, it could snap.

So what was he doing?

Prior to this big, great concert, he was very carefully, very gingerly, adjusting the strings, and the result of which

would be perfectly pitched instrument and coordinate with the orchestra. And as I'm preparing and I'm reading

and studying this passage in the scripture from the epistle of Paul to Titus.

And it says Paul is saying the same thing to Titus about God's grace. He's telling him that God's grace

basically trains us. God's grace adjusts us. God's grace keep us spiritually tuned. God's grace keeps us balanced.

God's grace applies balance of discipline and testing. God's grace brings a blessing and

chastisement at the same time. God's grace never permits us to go through anything

that we cannot bear, cannot endure, nor does he let us run wild and loose. That's what he's

saying here in this passage. He balances us enough in order to produce a heavenly melody.

God bless you. Now, we are at the second to last messages of the series from the Epistle of Paul

to Titus. Magnificent, three chapters but are full of rich treasures from the Word of God.

We're titling this series, pursuing godliness in a godless world, because that's exactly what Paul

is exhorting Titus to do and to train others to do. And so today we come to see how God trains his children,

how God trains his children by his grace into godliness.
