Hi, I'm Dave. I've been walking for fitness since 2013,

still taking an intentional daily fitness walk.

It was 10 years ago today, January 2nd, 2013, that I got my very first Fitbit, which changed my fitness life,

in fact, changed my life probably forever.

The Fitbit was given to me and all of my coworkers, at least offered to my coworkers by our company.

They wanted to encourage us to pursue health and wellness, and they thought that providing a Fitbit would help in that, and it certainly did, certainly did for me.

They also set up a monthly competition, and at the end of each month,

those with the most steps would get prizes.

But even if you didn't want to compete with others, they offered some financial incentives

if over the course of six months and then a year you reached certain very modest step goals.

And so a bunch of us, probably several dozen, accepted these fit bits, and probably a good

20 of us really got into the monthly competitions.

And you had to get a lot of steps, and this was a pretty competitive group.

And it pushed a button of mine,

a competition button that I really enjoyed. Made it fun. So yesterday when I realized that today was

the 10-year anniversary of that first Fitbit, which was a game changer, I was thinking about all the

people that I had been competing with, my coworkers who also got Fitbits,

and wondered how many of them are still going strong, are still pursuing fitness as intently as we all did 10 years ago?
