Have you been there the last one chosen, the last chosen for the team, maybe the last one

chosen for the dance, or the last one chosen to advance?

Maybe you've been pursued, but never chosen.

You've been trailed and hunted and followed, or often unhealthy motives, but it's different

when you've been set apart and chosen.

Or perhaps you've been rejected based on appearance or just a lie.

Perhaps you've been chosen for a task you don't want.

In Tolkien's book The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo asks, why did the ring come to me?

Why was I chosen?

Such questions cannot be answered, says Gandalf.

You may be sure that it was not for any merit that others do not possess, not for power

or wisdom at any rate, but you have been chosen, and you must therefore use such strength

and heart and wits as you have.

The theme of this meditation from 1 Samuel 16 is about being chosen, not pursued, but chosen.
