Summary

In this episode, David interviews Daniel Shankin: psychedelic integration coach, Vital instructor, and founder and director of Tam Integration.

He talks about the underrated importance of integration circles, how he created Tam Integration out of a personal need for them, how simple it can be for people to create their own groups, and how open-ended newly formed groups can be. He also discusses his "fractal inquiry" coaching method, and how the best coaching involves simply asking questions that lead clients to their own realizations and wisdom. He is offering courses that teach both of these skills: a course called Creating Community Psychedelic Integration Circles, and the newly-launched, year-long Mt. Tam Psychedelic Integration Coaching Program, beginning in October.

He discusses:

  • The importance of learning how to focus on your breath, especially during a tough experience
  • Hugging the Hindu spiritual leader, Amma (Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi), and the special energy that some people have
  • The benefits of knowing when a mind path isn't worth exploring
  • The difference between judgment and curiosity
  • The weirdness of psychonauts, and how maybe getting a little weirder is what's needed for your healing

and more!

Hello there. Welcome to Psychedics Today. My name is David Drabkin, the host of this episode.

A lovely conversation with Daniel Shankim. So Daniel and I have

0:22.6

met once or twice and had some lovely chats, particularly about parenthood and spirituality.

0:28.3

So we kind of bring that into this conversation, which is very real and meandering as well,

0:32.3

to be honest. Daniel was on the show five years ago. He's an old pal of psychedelics today and much has happened

0:38.5

in that time, five years. So we're talking about his work as the founder of Mount Tam's

0:44.8

psychedelic integration. What do they do? And his work as a coach, as an integration coach,

0:49.5

and the course that he has teaching others around integration coaching.

0:58.6

The topic of, yeah, meditation and spirituality definitely comes up,

1:03.4

but so does this really interesting piece that Daniel's been posting about on socials lately,

1:05.1

fractal inquiry.

1:10.6

And we all know what fractals look like, but it's a nice way of posing questions and developing the space between people

1:12.9

and within oneself that there has curiosity and inquiry. So it's a, yeah, it's a really nice piece.

1:20.4

And I loved two things that Daniel said. The question, are psychedelics going mainstream?

1:26.2

He says, no, the mainstream is coming to us.

1:30.1

And then another piece, if I'm fixing you, it means you are broken,

1:34.0

but if I'm serving you, it means you're holy.

1:36.9

I really like that.

1:38.0

So thank you, Daniel.
