Hello there. Thank you very much indeed for listening to psychedelics today. My name is David

Drapkin, the host of this episode, which is a vital psychedelic conversation with

Dr. Casey Pallos. So Casey is one of our vital instructors, and normally we'd have a vital

student alongside him, but because it's Casey's first show with us on psychedelics today, and he's

a very deep thinker with so much to say, we thought he deserves an episode all to himself.

So Casey is a psychiatrist and a therapist based in New York City.

He's been doing quite a lot of psychedelic clinical trial work initially psilocybin for cancer and anxiety

and ketamine for depression at NYU Bellevue.

And then also with MDMA assisted therapy with MAPs, like us, particularly the phase three clinical

trials. He's running two big projects right now, Nautilus Sanctuary, a non-profit, psychedelic research,

education, advocacy organisation,

and then Inermost, a brand new public benefit corporation, which is really operating as a

centre of excellence in New York, delivering treatment, practicum, training and clinical trials

all under one roof. When Casey was teaching our vital students a couple months back,

the title of his class was around deconstructing healing. So he's really thinking about what does

it mean to be coming at it from this psychiatric, diagnostic, pathologizing and reductionistic

model that uses the DSM in particular and that

understand symptoms as things to kind of quash and to eradicate. And so he was talking a lot about

symptoms being signals and that we need to tune into them and build relationships with them.

And that just stands out a lot to me.

And we go into the discussion around the inner healing intelligence, which is coming up for some criticism recently.

So we're trying to unpack what that actually means and how we see it showing up actually in clinical work using psychedelics.
