This week, we're pairing two stylish psychological thrillers about women entering into a murderous

conspiracy.

What are we plotting?

Both of our films this week are about a criminal

pact between two characters who unite to kill a sadistic, controlling figure in their lives,

but share only a tenuous bond themselves. In Corey Finley's directorial debut Thurrowbreds,

Anya Taylor Joy and Olivia Cook play two emotionally disturbed teenagers who revive a long-dormant

friendship and begin to entertain the idea of killing Taylor Joy's domineering stepfather.

They do this despite having no firm bonds and no good reason to trust each other.

The same is true of Vera Cluzo and Simone Signorette and H.G. Cluzzo's classic shocker Diabolique.

They are wife and mistress to a cruel boarding school headmaster, which would seem to make them natural adversaries, but instead unites them in a common cause. There is a twist, however, and a big one.
