I stumbled upon a reel by Joel Weben, a pastor in Texas. I genuinely thought it was either

satire or rage bait. I actually laughed at first as Webbing casually explained how his wife wasn't allowed to read a book

unless he had read it first and given his approval. I was sure it couldn't be real. But as that

clip gained traction and the Instagram algorithm started feeding me similar content, I realized this

wasn't a joke or hyperbole, nor was it a winking caricature of patriarchal

Christianity.

It was entirely sincere.

As I was flooded with more and more content, I went down a rabbit hole into a world I had

no idea existed.
