A Texas-based TikTok creator has been ordered to pay University of Idaho professor Rebecca Scofield $10 million in a defamation lawsuit, The creator falsely accused the professor of orchestrating the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students. Ashley Guillard, an internet personality, posted videos accusing Professor Scofield of planning the murders to cover up an alleged affair with one of the victims. Scofield sued for defamation after Guillard repeatedly refused to take the damaging videos down. It subjected the professor to severe harassment and threats. A federal judge found Guillard liable for defamation. Guillard filed an appeal to challenge the $10 million judgment
