Though she was born in London, Jemophiles is a Canadian citizen and has lived in Toronto, Ontario for her entire life thus far.

She is the daughter of two actors, Gary Files and Elva May Hoover.

Piles graduated from Ryerson University with the BAA in magazine journalism and then spent

roughly eight years as a film critic, primarily writing for local Alt Culture Journal

I Weekly.

By 1988, she was also teaching screenwriting, short screen playwriting, television series

development, film history, and Canadian film history.

First at the Trevis Institute, then the Toronto Film School.

In 2008, the Toronto Film School closed down and Fyle's son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

With this in mind if you only read one more piece of Files's work, we recommend her novel

experimental film, which won the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Novel, and won the Sunburst Award for Best Novel and when the Sunburst Award for Best Canadian Speculative Novel in 2016.
