| 0:00.0 | I'm going to just talk for about 20, 25 minutes and then have time for questions. |
| 0:04.6 | And the topic I want to talk to you about is the relationship between the Psalms and our inner life of prayer, |
| 0:11.8 | particularly, of course, because as Third Order Dominicans, one of the things that you're doing regularly is praying the Psalms and allowing them to orient your inner life toward God. |
| 0:24.7 | So let's just think a little bit about what that entails. |
| 0:26.9 | And I want to start by talking about what St. Thomas talks about prayer being, what prayer is, according to St. Thomas. |

| 1:18.9 | It's the elevation of the mind to think of God, to know God. |
| 1:23.6 | So it's the lifting of the mind up into God, so to speak. |
| 1:26.9 | Now the first thing you say about that is that that means that prayer in a certain way follows just the normal |
| 1:32.3 | orientation of our intellectual life. |
| 1:34.3 | Our intellectual life, we try to think about the world, try to understand the world, try to understand the world in light of what's most ultimate, |
| 1:39.3 | what explains the world best. |
