All right. Why don't we pray? We'll ask God's blessing on our time together in His Word.

Father in heaven, thank you so much for this Bible study that we have on Thursday nights. For us, it's

a time that we can just put aside all the busyness of our lives and all the cares and

the affairs of the day. And just come to this place, this beautiful church building that you've given us and open

up our Bibles and open up our hearts to just receive from you as you minister to us.

Lord, that's why we're here tonight.

That's why we so look forward to this time in the middle of the week

that we can do this and especially in the Psalms. Lord, thank you so much for the Psalms.

What a soothing balm on a troubled heart. Lord, thank you for this time tonight. We ask your blessing on our time together

in your word. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, let's jump in Psalm 60. Now this is a, pardon me, a very long and descriptive title.

It's to the chief musician set to a song that was likely very well known at the time, titled

Lily of the Testimony.

And it's a michthm of David, a meditation of David, and it's for teaching.

And it was written about the time when he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of

Zobah and Joab, this is his military commander, returned and killed 12,000 Edomites in the valley of salt.

So this is that Psalm that came out of that time in David's life.

Verse one, O God, you have cast us off.

You have broken us down.

You have been displeased.
