Summary

In this shortcast Kerry explores the meaning behind having clean palms and a pure heart, tying it into the rituals of the tabernacle and temple that he has spoken about before, as well as into images in Isaiah. There is more to this meaning than you may have supposed.

We are grateful for our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and for Jacob Muhlestein, who edited this episode, and to Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

Hello and welcome to the Scriptures A Real podcast. This is the podcast where we talk about things that

0:13.9

have made the scriptures become real and applicable to us because we think that helps us

0:17.7

us draw more power from the, and we need that power.

0:21.2

I'm your host, Carym. Yelstein, and this is a shortcast where we're just going to talk about

0:25.0

Psalms 24, and not even the whole Psalm, just a couple of parts of it.

0:28.4

And we're going to tie together some things that we mentioned in an earlier podcast, and

0:34.9

we'll refer to this again when we get to Isaiah chapter one. But as we look at

0:39.1

Psalm 24, this is a Psalm you're probably familiar with. Many people call this an Ascension

0:43.2

Psalm or a Psalm that was chanted or repeated or sung as you went up to the temple, maybe on

0:50.1

the pilgrimage up to the temple, or maybe as you really went up the mountain right into the temple.

0:54.7

Some people even think that some of the things might be like one verse with the Levites would sing to you

0:59.5

and then you would sing the next verse back to the Levites almost as a temple recommend kind of a thing.

1:04.6

Let's read these first couple verses.

1:10.6

So this is creation imagery as you'll see the second verse even more so, but especially this idea that God is the creator and the owner of everything and everyone.

1:20.8

We especially get creation imagery in verse two, for he have founded it upon the seas and established it upon the floods.

1:27.2

And if you remember way back, and if you weren't with us yet then, go back and listen to

1:30.7

some of our creation podcasts and episodes where we talked about creation out of watery chaos.

1:36.6

Now, here is the kind of linchpin verses verse 3 and 4, and some people think that the Levites

1:43.1

might sing verse 3 and the pilgrims that are going to the temple and sing verse 4 back.

1:48.8

And some people argue the reverse of that. Anyway, who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? And that's a metaphor. The hill of the Lord is the temple.

1:56.4

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord or who shall stand in his holy place? And the answer,
