Welcome everybody to the first sales lunchtime seminar of 2012.

I've got the great pleasure of introducing Nicholas de Sardler,

who's a leading EU and international environmental lawyer.

He is John Monique Professor of EU Law at San Luis University in Brussels.

He also teaches at the Lovain Academy and is a visiting professor at the University of Lund and the University of Lorraine.

He's also the author of one of my personal favorite books,

environmental principles, from political slogans to legal rules,

which really covers EU environmental law from a very comparative perspective

with other systems, and is unfortunately published with Oxford University Press.

But Nicholas combines legal scholarship with practical experience.

He just finished a very comprehensive study for the European Commission

on NGOs and environmental groups' access to justice.

And I think today he will cheer with us some of his thoughts on protection against acts
