Summary
The forensic trail prosecutors outlined in the D4VD People’s Brief reads like a receipt of alleged premeditation. According to the filing, in the weeks following Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s alleged death on April 23, 2025, David Anthony Burke allegedly ordered a shovel through Postmates the following day. Then, prosecutors say, came two chainsaws. A body bag. Heavy-duty laundry bags. An inflatable pool. A burn cage. All allegedly ordered under the alias Victoria Mendez and delivered to his Hollywood Hills residence.
LAPD’s Trace Analysis Unit reportedly found pieces of blue plastic consistent with that inflatable pool in deep cuts on Celeste’s remains. Her passport was allegedly recovered off Highway 154 near Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara County, where prosecutors say Burke drove multiple times to dispose of evidence.
Burke has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder with special circumstances of lying in wait, financial gain, and murder of a witness. He also faces charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child under fourteen and unlawful mutilation of human remains. His defense team maintains he did not cause Celeste’s death.
The digital evidence prosecutors describe is equally detailed. iCloud data and text messages allegedly document the sexual relationship. Child sexual abuse material was allegedly found on his phone. Ride-share records allegedly place Celeste at his home on the day she was killed. And prosecutors allege Burke sent text messages and made phone calls to Celeste’s phone after she was already dead — staging a digital trail to make it appear she had left his home alive.
Robin Dreeke and I take your questions on the investigative details, the alleged chain of evidence, and the systemic failures your questions keep circling back to.
