And let's start with just the fundamentals of why stocks even have value in the first place. So stocks have value to go back to the very beginning because when you purchase a stock, you are

purchasing ownership in a company. And you are purchasing that company because you expect that

that company either has current or future expected profits or expected net cash flows that you

as an investor have a right to. So when a company is in business generates revenue,

it pays for its expenses. The leftover, that's profit. That's net income. And that's what gets

distributed or that's what investors and shareholders have a right to. So dividends are just

one way in which a company compensates its shareholders. So what are the benefits of those dividends?
