Download the Prop Points Podcast there. Nick, let's get it. Let's rip the Band-Aid off. You know I'm a Pacers fan. The listening audience probably knows I'm a Pacers fan. I've been eagerly anticipating and dreading that moment from yesterday, the NBA draft lottery. Sure enough, the Pacers are out of the top four, which means they're out of this draft in the first round. The Clippers have their pick at Pick five. And the Washington Wizards, their tanking pays off. |
| 1:29.1 | They get the number one pick in the draft. |
| 1:32.6 | Well, first of all, Jeff, I do want to address my voice for the rest of the show. |
| 1:36.5 | I will be shouting in gravelly tones because I am a little bit under the weather. |
| 1:40.1 | But yes, I know you were mentally preparing yourself for the worst case scenario yesterday |
| 1:45.5 | afternoon. I think that did end up unfolding. The basers come away to me as by far the biggest |
| 1:50.9 | losers. And look, we saw teams like Brooklyn, Sacramento, tumble down the board. Atlanta had a couple |
| 1:56.8 | chances to jump up and they end up with the eighth pick via New Orleans. Milwaukee, you know, was hoping for some magic. Golden State was hoping for some magic. But all of those teams at least still have their pick. That's the thing. It's not like, all right, well, we missed out in the top three, but we still get the number five pick. No, that that pick was top four protected via the, the, the, uh, Vita Zubodge trade at the deadline. And look, I think the Pacers knew what kind of risk they were incurring. And this is smart negotiating by the LA clippers because if you're the Pacers, of course, you tried to get that pick top five, top six, top seven, top eight protected. And the clippers put their foot down at a certain point and made sure that they gave themselves the best chance possible to get a high pick in this draft. We had the rare situation where the Pacers GM, Kevin Pritchard, had to come out and basically issue an apology for taking that risk. But look, man, I know it didn't work out. I still think it's a worthy risk to take. You know, the odds were in the Pacers favor. They played the regular season as they should have, knowing that they weren't going to be a contender. And there was, you know, mathematically a very real scenario where you not only get the services of Avita Zubach, a very, very good center. And one of the more underrated big men in the NBA, you would get that. And then, you know, another top four pick on top of that to really hit the gas on, on kind of this gap year and, you know, return to contention next season. So obviously it didn't work out. It's devastating for the Indiana Pacers. It's a huge boon for the LA Clippers who do not deserve this pick whatsoever. But all of a sudden, they're in there at number five. And look, |
