Now this is a show where we kind of look at the weird, the wild, sometimes the, you know, just the nerdy corners of the world, you know, of science, tech, history. And I think today's going to be one of those weird days where we also dip into a little bit of science. In fact, we are looking at the world in general.

Is it a simulation? Well, a few physicists decided to do the math.

I think we've all heard some conspiracy theories out there, that the world is a simulation.

We're basically living in the Matrix. I mean, what if you right now are just a

digital character and some cosmic supercomputer running inside an alien civilization's code base?

Or maybe the robots did take over and we are just code and we'd be very inefficient batteries,

but we're going to skip that plot point.

Right now, it's one of science fiction's most irresistible ideas,

that the entire universe is just a simulation.

But now, a group of physicists say they've got math to prove that it is not a simulation.

And we're not talking just, it probably not.

They say it's mathematically impossible.

That's right, according to new research from the University of British Columbia, Okanagan,

our universe cannot be a simulation.

Because of the way reality itself operates.

It can't be replicated by any computer. The new study is led by

Dr. Mir Faisal, an adjunct professor at UBC Okanagan's Irvin K. Barber Faculty of Science,

along with co-authors, Dr. Lawrence M. Krause, Dr. Arshid Shabir, and Dr. Francisco

Moreno. Their findings were just published in the Journal of Holography applications in physics.

And they don't just take a swing at the simulation hypothesis.

They also tackle one of the biggest puzzles in all of physics.

The search for a theory of everything.
