There's wind howling across the highway in front of us. It's bending big trees,

cottonwood trees and the like, to where they look like they're gonna snap.

The air is full of smoke from fires across the west and I'd say there's

gusts of wind up to 40 miles an hour across the highway here.

And my son, William, who hosts the backcountry apprentice segment,

and I are on our way for the earliest hunt of the coming fall.

So Idaho, our home state here offers a early season youth muzzle odor hunt.

It's cool in the fact that they let these young people that draw these tags

begin hunting a week before the archery hunters come in. So for about a week we

have an undisturbed, allegedly population of antelope.

Now they're feeding on and off of public land onto some local alfalfa fields.

It's been really dry here.

And so we're hoping, if we can find some even to find a big travel route where a group of

antelopes feeding off the public onto the private ground, working the

alfalfa fields and then going back out into the brushy public ground

country to bed.
