Welcome to Ray, it's in Beryl. It's Tuesday, May 2nd. It's a project prospect edition. I love arbitrary cutoffs on the calendar. We have a new

0:24.0

month. I'm excited about it because then we can just take a snapshot of the season and talk about

0:28.8

that like it means even more than it actually does. I love to blow things out of proportion with

0:33.6

arbitrary units of time, even though the calendar is pretty well agreed upon as the way we measure time now.

0:40.3

Chris Welsh, Eno Seris, Derek Van Riper, all here with you on this Tuesday for our April rookie review.

0:46.2

We're going to talk about some players at the big league level, how they have performed so far,

0:49.6

and probably dig into some players from a dynasty perspective as well and talk about how their value has shifted over the course of the season so far. Now, we're going to start on the position player

0:59.4

side today. And we're going to start with James Outman, who from many angles looks like someone

1:06.0

that's going to be relevant for the Dodgers for a good while, despite the fact that he has struck out 34.2%

1:13.8

of the time this season, because he does a lot of things well. He makes very hard contact.

1:18.9

He's got a strong arm. He runs well. He actually takes walks. So he's got this thing, and I talked

1:25.3

about it with Welsh a little bit before the show, you know, where it's this sort of, it's the sort of tension that you have between strikeout rate and doing damage.

1:34.4

And Outman does enough damage for us to excuse the elevated strikeout rate, but it always leads us to the long-term viability question.

1:42.5

What kind of role do we see for Outman and do we see a path forward where you can improve?

1:47.6

Because this is his first prolonged exposure to big league pitching.

1:50.6

And there are a lot of interesting skills in what he brings to the table.

1:55.5

I mean, when you see a 34% strikeout rate, which I think is probably close to his true talent.

2:02.0

I know we've only seen 130 play to play in this for James Outman, but he strings and misses

2:07.2

a lot, and he was near 30 percent in the minor league.

2:09.4

So I think 35 is about what you expect.

2:12.4

Now you take that and say, as a lefty against the lefty, what do you expect?

2:17.1

38 percent? 40 percent? And if it's 40%,

...
