0:12.6	scrolling over some podcasts and I was hoping you would stop up mine. And oh my gosh, you did. I am just
0:16.8	so excited that you're here. And you're just in time. Hi, I'm Susan Garrett. And today,
0:22.1	we are talking about calm arrivals for your dog. How your dog can give appropriate greetings.
0:30.8	Okay, I had a little fun with you there at the beginning. I'd like you first before we dig into
0:36.0	how to make sure your dog has a really calm greeting at the front
0:40.7	door for anybody you included. I want you to think about a part of your routine, a part of your
0:45.8	daily routine that your dog knows for sure is not dog time. There's no way this is dog time
0:52.8	and you can tell by their reaction. Now,
0:55.0	it could be when you are, you're going to the computer or when you're going to shower in the
1:01.4	morning or maybe you're a knitter or somebody likes to read a book or when you sit down to watch
1:04.8	TV. There's probably a few things that you do that lead up to that. So, maybe it's you wash up dishes after dinner and then
1:13.3	you go and you grab your knitting needles and your wool. That's what it's called, right? You can tell
1:18.2	I'm a knitter. I'm pretty technical like that. You grab your wool or yarn. I don't know what it is.
1:24.8	It doesn't. We sit down. Like, there are things that your dog knows.
1:29.0	There's a pattern. Like I talked about in episode number 16, the thing before the thing,
1:34.6	your dog anticipates patterns of reinforcement in patterns that are not very reinforcing.
1:39.7	For example, when I go to have a shower in the morning, I go into my bathroom and I turn on the
1:45.2	shower because it takes a while for the water to heat up. Then I go into the closet,
1:50.1	I pick out some clothes and I come back into the bathroom. There's no dogs there. Now, normally when
1:54.9	I step into the bathroom, I get at least a couple of dogs going, oh, you're going to the bathroom.
1:59.0	This is going to be fun. I like it when you go to the bathroom because you can pat me, you can talk to me. Everything's good.
