2:33.0

That's amazing. Well, I'm so glad that you're here today and that you're able to be on the podcast and that we get to tackle this topic together because I've been emailed a bunch of times about progressive Christianity and theology and I'm pretty outspoken about where I stand on it that it is not biblical Christianity.

2:53.0

And I think that there are some people who hear that and it's like, okay, well, why? Like what's wrong with progressive Christianity? Like why? Why is that not biblical?

3:05.0

So I kind of want us to just lay down a foundation before we even begin kind of saying, okay, yeah, we don't believe this. This is why we don't describe to this as Christians as theologically Biblically sound Christians.

3:19.0

So in your words and your understanding and your expertise, what is progressive Christianity? Like what are some of the key things that define progressive Christianity that make it different from Christianity as we know it and as Jesus in the early church established.

3:39.0

Yeah, for sure. Well, I'll start out by saying what it's not because I think a lot of people put this lens on it as they start thinking about the progressives and a progressive theology.

3:49.0

It's not the only way to love God and love other people and care about the poor and care about social issues without being tied into a certain political party or being generally angry or judgmental of everyone.

4:04.0

So I think that's where a lot of people kind of fall out of step with what we're really talking about here because they think like, well, obviously I want to be progressive.

4:13.0

I want to be on the cutting edge of who Jesus is and what he means and loving other people.

4:18.0

So problematically what progressive what progressive Christianity ends up being is by and large and it's hard to parse all this out, you know, in the limited time that we have, but usually progressives have problems with a few things.

4:33.0

Primarily, they believe that the Bible at its core is ultimately unreliable.

4:39.0

And so really what we're talking about here is the idea that, you know, maybe there are some principles in Scripture that are true, maybe there are people historical events in Scripture that are true, but there's a lot of Scripture that's open to interpretation.

4:56.0
