Joining me again is Bob Drew, who is also a retired FBI profiler and my partner on this case

in profiling the offender, who was at the time still unidentified.

Well, I don't think we're ever going to know exactly why he stopped in 1986. He had a lot

going on. He was getting older. He had a family. But around that time is when DNA analysis was really developing

and in fact being used to solve crimes. And that could very well have been a reason. I think it was

a combination of factors. But I do agree he was sophisticated enough. There was a real element of immaturity to a lot of his

crimes. He was sophisticated enough to know how to avoid apprehension for so many years. And I think

he was very likely had DNA been fully developed, he likely would have worn a condom.

Another thing that I thought, in his real life, I thought that people would find him socially

awkward.

In several of the cases, the victims described him as muttering and mumbling to himself.

They didn't think it was part of the act.

They thought it was real.

And there was one case in Vysalia where he was followed by somebody.

I always believe that was a true sighting of the Vysalia rancacker, but he was followed.

And he started mumbling and muttering and

getting very nervous and talking to himself.
