and countless numbers of living organisms.

It's not just a growth medium. Soil is quite literally crucial to our survival, and yet most of us don't pay it any attention at all. Professor Lorna Dawson

does. Lorna is head of soil forensics at the James Hutton Institute here in Scotland.

She's an expert witness and a registered expert with a national crime agency.
