Today we'll speak with Professor Glenn Lowry. This is our series of conversations about

conversations of race in America.

Dr. Lowry is the Merton P Stoltz Professor of the Social Sciences,

Professor of Economics and Professor of Public and International Affairs at Brown University.

But first, a few things I'd like to discuss. Things

about the election are heating up. I have one sort of large thought on this. A lot of

uncertainty, a lot of unsettled quality out here to the election. The politics are unsettled. Politics are tough.

It's hard, harsh. It's going to get harder and harsher. One of the reasons for that, apart

from the contestants themselves.

The toughness of the Democratic Party if not Biden

and the toughness of Donald Trump

is the unsettled nature of the mood of the American people.

They're just not, you know, they're unsettled.

They're not sure, you know, what's going on? Hey, what's going on?

COVID. Look like it was going down. Now it's going back up.

Right. Shutdown, shelter and place. Economy gets shut down. People lose jobs.

School, can the kids go back to school? Probably not in most places physically, but not in the big cities anyway.

Oh for sure, yeah. physically but not in the big cities anyway.
