There are a lot of us who have stories about really challenging experiences in the workplace.

And sometimes we describe those experiences as,

they were so racist. And while that is it,

it also sometimes feels like an empty claim because it's hard to fill in the gaps with what

really amounts to the racist incident that we are experiencing. Now, there are some moments where

this is clearly not an issue. It's a clear black and white, pun intended, approach to an issue. And you can

clearly demonstrate, yes, no, that was definitely a racist act of microaggression or macroaggression,

whatever you want to call it in the workplace. But sometimes there's something slightly different.

Sometimes the levels of pushback and challenge, and frankly, I'm going to call it oppression that we face

in the workplace requires a different term, a different language and a different understanding.

And my guest today is someone who is pretty good at all of that. She is Leah Goodrich, or should I

say attorney, Leah Goodrich. She is an award-winning tenants rights attorney with over a decade

of experience fighting against gentrification

and displacement in New York courts. She's most known for her work advancing the tenants

movement and her writings on workplace equity. That's going to really be where we focus today.

A former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed Leah to the New York City Rent Guidelines Board

where she successfully advocated for

rent freezes for more than 2 million rent-stabilized tenants. She's currently a commissioner

with the New York City Planning Commission, and she is also the winner of two Bar Association
