Historically, the majority of the investment industry has taken the notion that, in order to have a positive impact,

it's likely that you would receive lower financial returns.

Recently, attitudes have been changing.

Profit and purpose are no longer seen as mutually exclusive.

One question that often gets asked is whether you can create impact through public equity investments,

as well as private markets.

This question gets answered today by Guido Polygar, CIO Vasteria.

One can generate impact both through private equity and listed equity.

Clearly, besides development finance institutions, the first impact investors were private equity

investors and venture capitalists.

They've been able to generate impact and performance.

They were really the pioneers of impact investing.

For me, the two investment classes are necessary to ensure the transition to a more sustainable economy and also to a more socially sustainable economy.

And they're not mutually exclusive. We need both. The only problem is that private equity market at the moment is too small to fill the massive

investment needs that we're going to have to do to ensure the climate transition or the

transition to a more socially inclusive economy.

This is why we need also to invest or do impact investing through
