Despicable as he may be, he sure makes for a good story.

And perhaps this is why he, along with Mr. Death, is one of the most recurring characters in the Twilight Zone.

as he inhabits the form of one of the Twilight Zone's most beloved stars.

When we meet newspaper editor Douglas Winter, lighting up a crooked cigarette that he finds in his desk drawer,

foreshadowing the crooked cigar that the devil himself will be smoking later on. But Douglas' newspaper, the Danzberg

courier, is not doing well, and Andy Praskins, a long-time employee, has just walked out because the newspaper

can't afford to pay him anymore. It seems the writing is on the wall for this particular publication

and it seems that Douglas Winter is going to step off a nearby bridge and end it all.
