Luke Sparke is a movie director who is days away from releasing his new film Primitive War in theatres here in America. I had the chance to sit down with him to talk about the inspiration behind adapting the novel into a movie and the challenges of bringing dinosaurs into the gritty backdrop of the Vietnam War. Luke dove into the creative process, from balancing intense action with raw human emotion to making sure the visuals felt both terrifying and authentic. We also discussed the cast (Jeremy Piven and Tricia Helfer) and how their performances brought a grounded edge to such a wild and imaginative story. Overall, Luke’s passion for blending history, horror, and spectacle made for an incredibly exciting conversation about what fans can expect from Primitive War.

| 0:06.0 | Fire on anything that moves. |
| 0:08.0 | Fucking Jesus! |
| 0:11.0 | Do the dinosaurs have feathers in your movie? |
| 0:15.0 | Yes. The dinosaurs have feathers. And that was something that I wanted to do because of the boy. |
| 0:19.0 | I'm telling you guys, there's monsters out here. |
| 0:23.6 | Can you talk about the sound design of your dinosaurs? |
| 0:25.6 | Yeah. |
| 0:26.6 | How do you figure out the noises that they're making? |
| 0:28.6 | That's a good question. |
| 0:29.6 | Full Metal Jacket meets Jurassic Park, highly anticipated with the film. |
| 0:33.6 | At what point do you realize that you've reached this magic level with the audience now that |
| 0:39.9 | there's excitement for it? It's very weird. It's a very weird feeling to reach it because as an |
| 0:45.0 | independent filmmaker, you just, you just never know, right? Like I put up, this is my seventh film |
| 0:49.5 | and you know, you put up the trailers online and it either, you know, it gets traction or it doesn't. And most of the time, it just kind of just is in the ether of the trailers online and it either gets traction or it doesn't. |
| 0:54.5 | And most of the time it just kind of just is in the ether of YouTube and you hope for the best, right? |
| 0:59.7 | But I think the moment was when we put out our teaser trailer back in April and suddenly it was like a million views in 24 hours and like we didn't know. |
| 1:08.0 | We're just like I said, just an independent filmmakers in Queensland. |
| 1:10.5 | So you hope, you think, you know what I mean, you dream. But there was this feeling on set when we were making it. There was sometimes when you're making films and productions, you get feelings and sometimes they're like, this isn't very good. And then you watch it and you go, hey, it was actually better than I thought it was, or vice versa. But there was this feeling on set where this was kind of something. And even though it was grungy and it was really hard to make and we're all in it together as this, you know, little group, there was this feeling. So when the trailer hit and people seemed to like what we were doing, it was definitely like, oh, here we go. Right. Here we go. You said there's that feeling on set. And then when you were watching it back in the dailies, is that just the right story mixed with the right setting, mixed with the right cast, mixed with the right everything? 100%. 100%. And it's just this, you can't describe it, I guess. It's like |
| 2:02.5 | it's it's it's this indescribable feeling. It's a gut. It's an instinct. And yeah, when we watch |
| 2:09.5 | the dailies, we were like, hey, this is actually pretty good. Yeah. Yeah, it's just a weird feeling. |
| 2:16.2 | Because this is the second time we're talking. |
