Prime Minister.

Mr Speaker, I know the whole House will want to join me in expressing my deepest sympathies

to the families and friends of Sergeant Matt Ratano, who was tragically killed in Croydon

on Friday. It is a reminder of the huge debt we owe

to those who put their own lives at risk to keep us safe every day.

Mr. Speaker, tomorrow sees the start of Black History Month. For generations, countless people

of African and Caribbean descent have been shaping our nation's

story, making a huge difference to our national and cultural life, and helping to make Britain

a better place to be.

And this is a fantastic moment to celebrate their contribution to our country.

Mr. Speaker, this meeting, I have meetings with ministerial colleagues and others.

In addition to my duties in this House, I shall have further such meetings later today.

The events sector, which includes weddings, festivals, conferences and music events, supports

nearly a million jobs and is worth over £30 billion to the UK economy.

It's been devastated by COVID. Revenue is down 90% since last year. Will the Prime Minister

look at financial support focusing on grants, not just loans, especially for freelancers, including musicians and performers,

and will the government support proactive COVID-secure testing events to boost confidence

and start to allow the events industry to support itself?

Mr Speaker, my honourable friend is absolutely right to champion the sector in the way that he does.
