In the previous chapters, Elizabeth was eager to leave Netherfield, and so arranged for her and Jane to return home despite her

mother's reluctance. Darcy is relieved by this as he is drawn to Elizabeth more than he would like given her untutability for marriage.

Soon after, the Bennets receive a visit from Mr Collins, their father's cousin and heir to their estate.

He is a pompous clergyman under the patronage of Lady Catherine de Barra, and quickly reveals his sycophantic and

self-important nature, march to the annoyance of the ladies of the Bennett family.
