Basically, a Soviet soldier right that ended up what,

Yeah, he defected to Afghan fighters in probably roughly 1987, after essentially deciding that he did not want to fight for the Soviet military anymore.

So it was this, so not Taliban as such then, like Mujahideen at the time, right?

Yeah, Mujahideen at that point.

The group that he was staying with was in Panchier province, so it was likely kind of in that

kind of northern Alliance sphere.
