What happened in the United Farm Workers movement?

I remember reading a, when I was reading City of Quartz, I think near the end of it,

Mike Davis talks about this a little bit.

And as the first time I ever heard Chavez referred to as, in the UFW referred to as a cult.

So I put a pin in it.

And I was like, I'm going to read about that.

Mike Dave is a serious thinker.

He probably wouldn't say that without really having something to back it up.

And I was reminded this week when Dolores Werta came out and talked about her abuse at the hands of Cesar Chavez.

And that's kind of, that's how we get to where we're going here.

So if you don't know, he's, he sexually assaulted her and a number of other females within

the UFW. The UFW, you don't know, uh, if you want to go all the way back to high school

here, Cesar Chavez, the reason there's a street named after him in your city is because in the 60s,

he was a union leader and like a labor activist.

And,

you know,

sort of like borrowed a lot of tactics from like Gandhi and people like that.

He fasted.

He organized boycotts and is like important and is important because he's like the,

you know, probably biggest Latino left like activist in the American imagination.

He, you know, organized for what really was, would remain a dispossessed population in the United States.

I mean, to this day, still, that's what so much discourse is about is, you know, these undocumented people and whether they're throwing the economy off or whatever.
