So basically what they've said is Google has abandoned this project because in these times of economic uncertainty, one of the richest corporations in the world can't take

the risk on doing this. Now, what actually happened is something else, right, Jathan?

Yeah, I mean, from the very beginning, the moment it was announced in October of 2017,

there was just like this total sustained public opposition, right? You had a lot of organizing,

a lot of activism by local kind of civic leaders, particularly by people like Bianca Wiley,

who were there really kind of calling the bluff on this Democratic public relations game

that they were playing, you know, showing up to every single meeting, asking questions, requesting documents, just like actually engaging with the company rather than letting them do this public relations ploy.

And they saw that as like this huge offense.

They were totally taken aback by the idea that the people that actually live in a city

would care what happens in that city.

And there was this sustained public opposition at almost every stage,

partly because what Google was going to do, right,

is they were going to say, yeah, what we're offering you

is we're going to say your bin collection won't change, but it will be way cheaper.

And what we're going to take from you is all of your information on everywhere you are

and everything you do at any time all the time.

And we're just, we're going to go through the garbage, but like, uh, it will remain fundamentally

the same.

And we're just going to build an effigy out of you using your toenail clippings.

It's not a big deal.
