Good evening and welcome to the sleepy bookshelf. This season we are reading A Room with a View by E.M. Forster.

Now we know our listeners are as unique as our novels and lucky for you, our bookshelf is varied with lots of different types of stories to lull you into a deep sleep.

The following is a trailer to give you an idea of what to expect from this season.

Edward Morgan Forster was an English author and is considered one of the most successful

novelists of the Edwardian era.

He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature 22 separate years and even declined

a knighthood in 1949.

After attending school in Kent, Forster studied history and classics at King's College in Cambridge.

He then travelled throughout Europe before publishing his first novel.

He is best known for titles such as Howard's End, a passage to India, and of course, a Room With a View, which we will be reading tonight.

A Room With A View was published in 1908

and is a romantic novel following the central character Lucy Honeychurch,

who is visiting Italy with her cousin.

There she experiences a world far freer and more passionate than the rigid society she has been brought up in.

Back in England, Lucy secures a sensible engagement with a match that fits social expectations,

but it isn't long before Lucy is forced to think about what she really wants.

This novel is going to tick all our sleepy bookshelf boxes and should be perfect for this time of year.
