Good evening and welcome to the sleepy bookshelf. This season we are reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Bronte was an English author and poet best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights. She was one of the three

Bronte sisters, who published under male pseudonyms to be taken seriously as writers. Though she died young

at only 30 years old, her work left a lasting legacy and is retold in many forms today.

It's probably one of, if not, the most famous Gothic romance novels ever written.

We know our listeners are as unique as our novels,

and lucky for you our bookshelf is varied,

with lots of different types of stories to lull you into a deep sleep.

So here we will give you just a taste of what to expect from this season.

Many of you may be familiar with the story of Wuthering Heights, or will at least have heard

the title. It was originally published in 1847 and tells the dark, compassionate story

of Heathcliff and Catherine, whose intense love

leads to jealousy, revenge and tragedy. The novel is set on the wild Yorkshire Moors,

perfectly reflecting the turbulent emotions of the characters. Its unusual structure,

with multiple narrators, creates a sense of mystery and complexity, which I will make sure

is easy to follow while you drift off to sleep. Though controversial when first published, it is now celebrated

as a masterpiece for its power and originality, and I am so excited to bring it to you. I hope it

will be a perfect read for October.
