Good evening and welcome to the sleepy bookshelf. This season we'll be reading to you the mysterious

affair at styles by Agatha Christie. We know our listeners are as unique as our novels

from this season. The mysterious affair at styles is our first book by the queen of crime herself,

Agatha Christie. Many of you have requested one of our stories and we're pleased to say the time

has finally come. In fact this was her first detective novel which she wrote during the first

wild war. It is also the first of her stories to feature the famed Belgian detective Hercule

Puyro, known for his fastidious nature and keen observations. While Agatha Christie wrote many

sleuths in her time, Puyro is one of her most well loved. The story is narrated by Arthur Hastings,

the man who will go on to become Puyro's closest associate and sidekick.

Like him, we'll meet other characters who will appear in several future Puyro stories,

including the jovial yet skeptical inspector jab.

The mysterious affair at styles is named for the sprawling country home in which a murder takes

place. A family and their acquaintances are gathered at the house when suddenly one night

the matriarch is seized by a fit of convulsions. After gasping her husband's name with her final

breath she falls back on the bed, dead. Was it an accident? Something slipped in her evening cup

of cocoa, a crime of passion, revenge or jealousy, only Puyro can crack the case and bring a murderer to

justice. We hope you will join us for this season, however if you decide that the mysterious
