Good evening and welcome to the sleepy bookshelf.

This season, which is exclusive to Premium, we have two fairy tales by French author Charles

Doulin.

We know our listeners are as unique as our stories, and lucky for you, our bookshelf is really

varied with loads of different types of words to lulling into a deep sleep.

The following is a preview to give you an idea of what to expect from this season.

Born in 1827, Charles Doulin was a folklorist and critic.

He collected regional stories passed down all really from generation to generation.

He grew up in a poor family who lived along the Belgian French border.

These landscapes of his childhood played a central role in the tales he later wrote.

Many French writers of the time set their stories in Paris or other large cities, that his

tales were beloved by people in the rural low countries, or Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

This season will be reading two of his stories, the nettle spinner which tells the tale of

a young woman and a petty lord whose fates become intertwined one day when the lord makes

a selfish demand.

And Johnny Nutt and the golden goose, shfollos a hapless young man across the countryside.

He stumbles from mishap to mishap, all for the sake of one day tasting the perfect roast

goose.
