Good evening and welcome to the Sleepy Bookshelf. This season we have a special autumn treat

in store for you. We'll be reading the famous American Gothic short story, The Legend

of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. We know our listeners are as unique as our novels

and lucky for you our bookshelf is varied with lots of different types of stories to

lull you into a deep sleep. The following is a preview to give you an idea of what to

expect from this season. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a classic ghost sleetail about a dreamy

village in New York State. First published in 1819 it is both humorous and eerie and

has captured the imagination of readers ever since. It follows a hapless schoolmaster named

Ika-Bod Crane who hopes to marry Katrina Vantassam, the daughter of a wealthy local man,

also vying for her attentions, his brum bones are volcus young man who may or may not get

up to some tricks as he tries to best crane. Always in the background are the countless

stories of ghosts, goblins and haunts behind every tree and in every gust of wind in the

sleepy town. The most famous story of course is that of the headless horseman, a dark rider

who gallops through the woods late at night. We hope you will join us for this season,
