on the morning of September 13th, 2016, a woman called 911 and spoke to a police dispatcher

in Ashland, Ohio.

The young woman, whose name has been redacted, spoke in a hushed voice, just loud enough

for the dispatcher to understand her. The reason why would soon become understood.

One of the scariest things about serial killers can be the seemingly lack of motive, the sheer

randomness of their killings. Despite the fact that most murders are committed by someone

close to the victim, almost all of us are much more frightened of the stranger in the

alleyway. The sheer randomness of being killed by a person you don't know, the lack of

any apparent motive is almost scary to us because there would be little way to see it coming,

little we can do to prevent it from happening. However, today's case is proof that there

is a type of serial killer who can be even scarier than the stranger in the alleyway, a man

who would befriend his eventual victims, just long enough to make them trust him and let

their guards down around him before he struck. A man whose motives for killing his victims

was so incoherent, they seemed like the ramblings of a mad man, and yet the man confesses

to having known what he was doing was wrong. We are talking about the case of Sean

Great.
