So in the film, Kit Carson and his two pals, Lopez and Ape, with a bunch of other trappers,

have just spent the last two years collecting elk skins and beaver pelts.

And so two years of trapping, and then they're coming down with their traps.

And they've got a group of about eight guys or nine guys or something.

They're attacked by renegade Indians fighting for the French. traps, and they've got a group of about like eight guys or nine guys or something, they're

attacked by renegade Indians fighting for the French that are on the war path.

And so all the other guys get killed, and they lose everything that they had collected for

the last two years.

And so they show up at the waste station fort, broke, but, you know, what are we

going to do?

They lost all their pelts.

But there's a wagon train that's going through, and the American Cavalry, led by Dana Andrews.

His job is to find the shortest route to California. And the wagon train led by Clayton Moore,

who later went on to play The Lone Ranger,

is trying to get to California, too, with his wagon train.

And they have not offered Kit Carson the job.

They just figure he's going to take it.

And so they're waiting for Kit Carson

to arrive so he can be the wagon master and lead the wagon train. And so he shows up.
