slash fake or just fanficion in general, like that has sex elements and why fanfiction.

We're also really weird about how we show sex in movies and TV, because on the one hand,

like, sometimes we'll be really titillating about it, but like usually very like in an unromantic

way. It's very like you walk, like,

the characters walk into a strip club and then there's titties and it's like, and the camera

lingers on the titties and like, ooh, titties. Like you can't find titties anywhere on the internet.

But generally speaking, a lot of, I was just watching Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which I'm

like, this is my most controversial opinion, which is I thought it was just okay. And one of the things that really bugged me about

it is we finally, we built this tension agonizingly between these two women, and they're finally

having sex, and there's a fucking cutaway to the next day. We see them making out a little cutaway

the next day they're lying in bed with artfully arranged sheets. Cutaways are the

enemy. This is what fanfiction is for. As I was saying to Leida when she told me this,

cancel culture for people who do this fade to black shit. Like, fuck it. There are times when things

are more sexy if you don't show them. I agree. This isn't game. This is not one of them. Well, it's also

like, this is like two women who don't even really know each other that well necessarily. Like,

there's a lot you can express in a sex scene. That's a lot, it's emotional. And like, the point

isn't just to show us some titties. It's like, it's to show the feelings of the characters and like as they're working out this part of the relationship.

Yeah, it's weird that there is this kind of notion it's like in our culture. It's like it's normal and healthy to put all your like sexual feelings into like just pornography that's like purely like, you know, physical, visual, nothing.

And then like in your like actual stories that have emotional stakes, it's like distasteful to like have any

sex in them, which that seems kind of fucked up, right?
