It is worth mentioning, of course, that Christian Smalls is a very talented organizer.

He was able to do this by, you know, like sleeping at bus stops and talking to workers.

But, you know, there were other people who wanted him to go about this in a different way.

And eventually they're able to bring on James McAlevy, who's an author who's done a lot of organizing.

She wrote no shortcuts, among other books,

that are very focused on actually winning gains for the working class

through the union movement primarily.

And she's a sociologist, so she's really studied what works and what doesn't, and she'll say things like you need 90% unity before you go into a vote stuff like that and uh they bring her on and she does training sessions um and then the they're you know six hours long each and eventually she gets people on her side because the company

to try and placate the union they they throw, the workers a 25 to 75 cent raise, which really

outrages people who just, you know, voted to unionize. And, uh, and, um, so there seems like

there's momentum on their side.

She is able to get Christian Smalls to agree at this point to just focus on Staten Island and not do any traveling, but then eventually he breaks the agreement.

And he goes, you know, to places like L.A. and then later Cuba.

So eventually and I'd be interested to hear what she has to say about it. I don't think

she's commented on it publicly, at least that much anyway,

but Jane McAleavy withdrew from advising the union. And Christian Smalls says, well, you know,

she wasn't really experienced specifically with Amazon. So she didn't get it. And he keeps saying

that, you know, they are being approached by Amazon workers from other facilities who want to unionize too.

And I can understand how that's hard to say, sorry, I got to focus on Staten Island right now.

I can't come to Alabama or California or wherever it may be.

So he's kind of seems like he's spreading himself too thin.

And, you know, in October, they have one of their worst losses.
