One helpful thing for me is that America is allied with the more religious Muslim governments, like Saudi Arabia.

And the Soviet Union's allied with like the more secular, but like still kind of authoritarian governments.

Yeah, that kind of makes sense because the, this conservatism aligns with the religion and stuff like that and the so it's just godless communists

of course and the nationalist movements are like you know republican movements not in the american

sense but in like the the IRA sense kind of they're like trying to sort of warm up into states

in certain ways.

So kind of underneath this, there's another meta level of like a further proxy war in Yemen because there's just civil war in Yemen. And the Soviet Union backs the Yemeni Republican regime and the U.S.

block backs the Saudis, which are kind of part of this, right?

Palestinian commandos have been raiding Israel with the support of a new radical Syrian regime that existed for like four years or something.

Israel reacted to all this and threatened Syria, which then, because

it's all very confusing, by the way, even in the book, he's like, this is unclear. But yeah, so

go ahead. Oh, I like the parallels to today of, yeah, a war in Yemen with Saudi Arabia on one side. And then very soon we're

going to have Egypt is going to blockade Israel in the port by the Red Sea, the exact same thing

that the Houthis are doing today. Really, it never, it's a flat circle, it never ends.

Exactly, yeah. Because Israel only has one port, and there's a flat circle. It never ends. Exactly. Yeah. Israel only has one port and there's, there's always Arab countries who don't like them, as almost all Arab countries do, who are in the way of that port.

So Israel reacts to these like these raids by Palestinian commandos, by threatening Syria, who's their backer, which causes Egypt to

decide to move into the Sinai Peninsula and start demanding the removal of UN peacekeeping

forces in order to protest Israel. So Egypt is in this weird space where like they don't really

want to get involved because they're still focusing on building their own infrastructure and stuff like that.

But this is just a critical mass here where something has to be done.
