We're in 1918 at this point. The Germans have done their big attack, the Kaiser Schlaught

in Western Front and it's failed. Even two weeks before the end of World War I in the West,

even two weeks before, no one knew it would be done in two weeks. It sort of came out of the

blue the German request for a full harvestice. Sort of came out of the blue the German request for a full armistice.

Sort of came out of the blue.

I mean, everyone knew it was on the card, but the exact time of it.

So, yeah, even a month before the end of World War I,

you would be forgiven for thinking, we're going to be fighting into 1919.

And the war in the East, similar-ish, the Ottomans collapsed pretty quickly after Damascus.

Because we don't get armies all the way to Constantinople because the Ottomans give in.

When the Germans give in, the Ottomans give in.

Although, of course, you know, a few years later, there is that whole international forces

do, and my right in thinking they do occupy Constantinople, and that's when the Turkish

under Ataturk, yeah, it takes place.

And so just to finish out the Turkish story, yeah, the young Turk government of the three

passions flee.

They all flee to Germany, don't they?

Yeah, they flee on a German U-boat.

And then we get the era of Mustafa Kemal, Ataturk, controlling and now secular Turkey.

There's no more Ottoman. Don't talk about Ottomans anymore. It's Turkey. Yeah.

And yeah, the modern, more or less the modern state of Turkey.
