Hi folks, welcome to Epochs where I'm joined by Bo and we are going to be talking about the tumultuous times of Henry the third.

Now I've got to be honest, I actually don't know much about Henry the third.

I know a lot about the time period in which he lived, but he isn't, who doesn't seem that interesting,

and he seems to be bookended by two more interesting kings.

Yeah, you can absolutely be forgiven for knowing less about him than a lot of the others, for exactly that reason.

All historians, even Shakespeare, noted that John is really interesting for being a baddie if you like and his son who is

Edward the first Edward Longshanks who also has a long 30 plus long year long rain

and lots and lots of adventures and daring do and then Henry the third as you say bookend of

Advering Do and then Henry the third as you say bookend bookended by them.

It pales in comparison.

He's outshong by their glare very much so.

Yeah. So he because he there. unexpectedly. So he's a boy king ruled in his minority and ruled for 55, 56 of the years, so long, long rain, but he wasn't a martial king. He didn't have a great have a massive personality.

In fact, he was quite pious.

He's known as one of the most pious kings.

He's sort of, I suppose you could say, his greatest achievement was rebuilding Westminster Abbey.

So that gives you a sort of a measure of the man.

He's more interesting spending his treasure on abbeys than on fighting in France.

There's definitely something to be said for it. I imagine that the average person is

like oh thank God it's 50 years of peace. Well, no, there was no piece.

It wasn't massive chevosha to be France,

but it was a really, really tumultuous time.
