This is John Batchel. Bob Zimmerman, my colleague brings great news. Voyager 1, outside the solar system, or near 2, is alive. Here I'd buried it several times because after all these decades, it's wearing down in its battery life. However, solar wouldn't do any good at that distance from a sunshine.

However, the engineers have worked a miracle. It's still alive. And it's headed towards what Bob

celebrates is its 50th anniversary outside of planet Earth. Viger 1. You remember Viger, don't you, from the first Star Trek movie,

where Viger comes back as something of an opponent tearing up Enterprise until they bring it in and

realize the word O Y has been erased, has been smeared. it thinks its name is Viger is quite a spectacular

movie but Viger is out there and here's Bob to describe what the engineers did this and

what they hope to achieve more of this tonight feature one array it's still flying uh both

voyage one and two outside the solar system are still working, but barely.

Engineers, because of a lot of reasons, have managed to bring a set of thrusters back to life

after they were shut down in 2004, so after almost two decades, they figured out how to get these thrusters

to work again.

This gives Voyager 1 additional backup as it flies beyond the solace.

The goal here is to make it last until 27, which would be the 50th anniversary of their

launch, and that would be quite spectacular, keeping spacecraft alive for a half century.
