Hey, everybody, this is The Last Lap.

I'm Matt Wilstein from The Daily Beast with a little preview of our new episode coming next week with comedian and former SNL cast member Chris Redd.

Okay, full disclosure, this episode was supposed to go up this past week, but Chris had to cancel at the last minute after an attack outside of the comedy seller in New York landed him in the hospital the night before we were supposed to talk.

So when I was finally able to connect with Chris this week, just as his new stand-up special, Why Am I Like This, was premiering on HBO

Max. The first thing I did was ask him about that incident and how he's already figuring out

how to turn it into material. Here's what he had to say. Well, thank you so much for doing this. I'm

so glad we're getting to do it because, as I'm sure you know, we're supposed to talk last week and uh you know had to had to cancel last minute and of course i i only found out why uh on tmz

the next day so so did i'm glad to see that you're that you're doing okay um and i want to get

into your special and everything else but before we do do, I know that you sent out a message,

you know, thanking everyone for their support and, you know, saying that there were some

details that were maybe wrong in all the tabloid reports. So what really happened outside the

comedy seller last week? Oh, man, a surprise party of one fist., nigga. Well, you know, I was walking up to do show.

First of all, I didn't get out of a car. I walked there like any New Yorker. And they just

added a lot of details. I was just got done texting my cousin who was in Olive Tree above the cellar

so I could go eat some of his

fries before I hit the stage real quick

for my first set of three

and as I put my phone in

my pocket and look

and walk and you'll continue to walk up to the cellar

as I always do. This man

hit me in the face with something metal.
