All right, we're moving on to our movie for this episode. It's 2008's Burn After Reading by Joel and Ethan Cohen, the movie they made the year after a little movie called No Country was just one night when I thought like, fuck, you know,

0:21.3

I could, I could really go for a good movie. You know, the thing about that movie is,

0:24.3

it's a really good film to watch if the thing you want to watch is just a, is a really

0:29.5

fucking good movie. Yeah, it's like, sometimes you're in those moods where it's like,

0:33.9

let's not fuck around, you know. This is not a zero-day kind of night.

0:38.3

I want to be entertained and I want something really well-made that also has a little bit on its mind.

0:45.7

And that everything, no apologies.

0:47.9

And it's perfect.

0:49.1

Yeah.

0:49.9

So I had a great time with that.

0:51.6

But I do remember, you know, when Burn After Reading came out a year

0:55.0

later, a plainly more minor film, or at least presenting itself as a more minor film, although

1:01.7

after this viewing, I may, well, we'll get to it. Well, so look, full disclosure, I was pitching

1:06.9

Blood Simple. We were also tossing around Bart and Fink, two very good films, but Will

1:11.5

suggested this one, and it clicked for me right away. It made perfect sense because would you

1:15.4

believe it, I'd never seen it. And part of the reason for that was that when I was first getting

1:19.9

into the Cohen Brothers, you know, I guess slightly before Burn After Reading came out, but when it came

1:24.7

out, I was still somewhat new to them. You know, I'd seen no country.

1:27.9

I'd seen Fargo, probably one or two others. And the received wisdom about burn after reading was

1:33.0

this is the worst Cohen Brothers film. It wasn't even, as I saw it, like anecdotally, just this

1:38.9

is kind of slight or it's slighted than the others. It was, this is easily their worst one.

1:42.9

That's interesting. I mean, the lady killers is plainly worse.
