And then, of course, the voiceover is, you know, having suffered a temporary setback, Walker made a strategic retreat.

But, you know, his men's morale was, as all, was high.

Shortly after some soldiers from Ecuador ride up to their camp on the beach and say, oh, don't you realize, you know, you like, you've won.

You broke their spirit.

You terrified the natives into submission.

And something else I really like about this movie's depiction of all this is how small

Walker's operation and his outfit really is.

You know, they're on the beach toasting this great victory that they've had.

And like, this is like, I don't know, 50 guys got off a ship that they lit fire to, rode into

the jungle, attacked a town for no particular

reason, were driven out, attacked the town of the most inept way possible, and then they're like,

aha, great victory. And then as soon as he takes up residence in the capital, of course, he hangs a

picture of Napoleon Bonaparte on his wall, as if his like failure to capture this town was fucking

austerlitz or something. Eventually Walker and his men do achieve a victory at great cost. They take

over Granada. They institute civic reforms. They bring democracy. They bring a newspaper to Granada,

run by him, of course. When the rebels in Nicaragua

unite with other Central American countries to try to repel Walker in his forces, Walker takes

over the government, appoints himself president, dictator, really. Yeah, having executed the president.

And he runs the newspaper himself and commissions a front page of...

It's like Walker elected, Nicaraguans rejoice. And then... The election happened today. See, it says

in the newspaper. Yeah, I won. Yeah. And the voiceover is like, you know, Walker's Immortals

legislated several cultural reforms. And what you're seeing is they're just whipping people in the
